What is Medical Reiki?

Let's Talk about what Reiki is First

Reiki is an ancient healing technique that works with the energy in and around the body to promote stress and anxiety reduction and relaxation. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy.” So Reiki is essentially “spiritually guided life force energy.”

Energy comprises and flows through all living matter. When we are stressed and anxious, we carry around negative energy which can cause blocks in our bodies’ energy centers. These blocks are thought to be the cause of pain and dis-ease.  Doctors may treat the physical symptoms, but often fail to treat the source of the problem.

This is where energy healing comes in. Energy healing is based on the belief that the body consists of energy moving in channels around and through the body.  A Reiki practitioner has been trained to scan and feel these blocked areas and to get the energy properly flowing again. It is administered by laying on hands and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, raising the life force energy can bring a body back to its natural healthy balance.

Because of the mind body connection, a patient must commit to not only having Reiki treatments but also to making the positive changes necessary in their lives to start feeling better.

Reiki is not a religious practice. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that can benefit anyone. It has been effective in helping virtually every known mental and physical illness. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. Reiki is safe for anyone! Babies and children enjoy the peaceful calming effects of Reiki. Even pets enjoy it!

What is Medical Reiki then?

Medical Reiki is a Reiki session performed in a hospital setting.  Patients may choose sessions during a pre-operative state, a post-operative state, or with the surgeon’s permission, during a medical treatment in the operating room.  Patients receiving chemotherapy benefit greatly from Medical Reiki treatments prior to their chemo sessions. There are slight differences, in that usage of crystals and aromatherapy are not allowed in such settings in accordance with hospital policy.  The same benefits will apply in a Medical Reiki session as in an office setting.  The patient receives all the same benefits of the life force energy being delivered, while in a hospital, hospice or other medically-related setting.
